Let’s be honest here: Christmas and I just don’t get along. As I’ve said before I wouldn’t bother with the holiday except for the fact that my son and wife enjoy it.
This year I really don’t want to get stuck in any of the “Oh it’s the holidays we just have to do something special at work” crap. I don’t care about a holiday pot-luck. I don’t care about doing a secret santa routine. I have no interest in decorating the office tree. I don’t want to exchange cards with co-workers (save the trees!). I went to my team leader today and explained all of this in a polite way. So, I’m off of the holiday hook. Yay!
I think what bothers me the most about the holiday is how commercial it has gotten. Damn, I think I’m starting to sound like a scratched record. What’s that? You don’t know what a record is? Ok, picture a really big CD that is solid black that requires a special machine to play it. This giant black CD has scratchy sound and you have to turn it over halfway through the album to hear the rest of it. Ok, now you know what a record is. Whatever happened to bringing in a tree from the cold to remind you and your family that winter is half over and warmer days are coming? First religion got a hold of the holiday then the retailers did.
Will I buy gifts for my family? Yes. Do I expect any gifts in return? No. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If you want to buy me a gift make a donation to charity.
That reminds me .. I saw a crosley record player in a sale ad. I need to go buy it before they are all gone. My mother will love it. *smirks*
