Recently some co-workers have quit smoking and I’m proud of them for that. Although I do laugh inside when I hear one of them say “I’m not addicted to anything now” and then goes to get her third coffee of the day.
One of them expressed something to me that made me stop what I was doing and just laugh out loud. This co-worker recently applied for a different position in the company. While discussing the position my co-worker said “I really hope I get this position. It’s just the excuse I need to stop smoking weed.” Wait, what? I told this person “What do you mean it’s just the excuse you need? Either you want to stop smoking weed or you do not want to stop smoking weed. What happens if you don’t get the position?” My co-worker thought about it and said “Well, I guess I could stop smoking weed either way but I don’t know if I would be motivated enough to do it.” Wait, what? In the end I told this person that they were obviously aware that the weed wasn’t doing good things for them or they wouldn’t have these thoughts. I encouraged my co-worker to put down the bong and step back into life no matter what happens. We’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have to shower, eat spicy food, watch the Simpsons and do a million other things I absolutely must do before I go to bed.
