I wish my employer had the spine to do something like this: Whirlpool Suspends 39 Workers For Smoking.

Did you read the article first or get mad first? I cheered both before and after I read the article. Go ahead and read it.

Because the smokers wanted to save money they lied on their insurance forms. Because they were caught in the lie they have found themselves without a paycheck temporarily and, according to the article, maybe permanently.

I’m thrilled to see Whirlpool do this and I hope more companies follow this example.

Because I still have bills to pay and the job market is in the trash I’ll still have to hold my breath going in and out of work because of the smokers standing in front of the door which has a “No Smoking” sign next to it. I’ll continue not being able to sit at the outside tables during lunch now that nice weather is here because of the people that sit there smoking directly under a “No Smoking” sign and use the center of the table as an ashtray. I’ll continue working in a place where Management and HR is run by smokers who say things like “We understand how you feel and will do what we can to help” and then go stand next to the “No Smoking” sign and light up. And I’ll continue to be amazed by those members of management when they wonder why I have no respect for them.

If McCain wins the election and invades Iran can we all yell “Monopoly!” and put hotels across Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan?

The Olympic Flame was extinguished in Paris today and it was done more than once. The final leg of the Paris relay was canceled.

What caused this? Protesters. As you may know China isn’t known for it’s great human rights campaigns. A number of people in this world, including myself, find China’s actions in Tibet to be criminal.

Some people see the extinguishing of the flame and cancellation of part of the relay as a victory but I don’t. I do not believe the flame should pass through Tibet. The flame is a symbol of the games and hope. The people carrying the flame and the flame itself deserve more respect than the protesters are showing.

Hopefully the rest of the flame’s route will be successful with one exception, Tibet. I do believe it is an insult to the people of Tibet to have the flame, a symbol of hope, pass through Tibet as they are being oppressed by the government of China. Keep the flame out of Tibet.

How many things in our lives do we take for granted? Imagine for a week that you could not use your computer, your DVD player, your microwave or your cellphone. How would your week go? Well, you wouldn’t be reading this. This past week in Cuba the new president Castro has made it legal for citizens to own all of the above. Most Cubans can’t afford them but at least they now have access to them.

Do you think you could do it though? Do you think you could go a week without all of those things? I couldn’t. Well, that’s not true. I could do it I just don’t want to. I do need to go camping again though. It’s good to take a couple of days to just unplug from everything.

You have probably heard about the riots in Tibet recently. There have been injuries, deaths, damage to private property and many arrests. Things got ugly and it’s probably not over yet. Did you hear about the protest in New York though?

A group of people marched to the U.N. in New York on March 14th as part of a Free Tibet protest. NYPD officers used, what I believe to be, unnecessary force against the protesters. Watch towards the end of the video how an officer covers some ground to confront a protester and then strike him. Nothing like getting hit with a telescoping nightstick when seeking a peaceful resolution.

To be fair to both sides notice at the beginning of the video that a protester does push a cop out of his way as he goes by.

4000 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq since the war started. That’s not Afghanistan and Iraq. No, just Iraq. The war Dubya threw us into without any damn proof of his charges. It’s even been proven now that there were no WMDs and there were no ties to Al-Qaeda. None! That’s just over 2 soldiers a day whose lives were lost because of this damn war.

I hate that these 4000 lives have been lost and I cringe to think of how many lives are affected by the loss.

What I hate the most is when that ass-hat Dubya opens his damn mouth about it. He’s said that the lives “were not lost in vain.”  But that’s not the worst of it. Take a look at what the ass-hat said next:

One day, people will look back at this moment in history and say, ‘Thank God there were courageous people willing to serve, because they laid the foundations for peace for generations to come,’

Listen carefully to what I have to say Dubya, “Shut the fuck up.” It was your goddamn ego that brought us to this point so do us all a favor and just shut the fuck up.

How bad do things have to be before the officials we elected speak up? Slick Willy got a blow job and people tried to throw him out on his ass. Dubya starts a war that can’t be won (these people have been fighting amongst themselves longer than our country has existed) and people still applaud him.

Yeah, sometimes I’m too honest.

When it comes to religious beliefs it’s hard to find people that are really dedicated to their ideas. Well, outside of a cult it’s hard to find people really dedicated to their ideas. Then again, aren’t all religions cults in one way or another? I’ve gotten off track here. Let’s just start a new paragraph.

Let’s here it for Christians in the Philippines! Now these are some people that are dedicated. I read this story from Reuters about Good Friday.

To me the best part is the vendors. Talk about a captive audience (ha!) to sell stuff to. Ok, if you didn’t read the article I’ll quote the part about the vendors.

The atmosphere was festive, with hawkers selling beer, ice-cream and souvenir whips.

Beer, ice-cream and souvenir whips? Ok, if I drink enough beer I can beat the shit out of myself. I can then reward myself with ice-cream and take home a whip to remind me of the day. The vendors, those guys are my heroes.

It was 10 years ago today that Viagra was made available to the public.
We haven’t cured cancer or aids or even stopped the common cold, but loss of erections are no longer a problem.
